What's new
The Committee of Presidents is pleased to announce the Executive Committee of the Colleges Ontario Committee of Presidents for the 2024-2025 term.
We’re pleased the province is allocating 80 per cent of the international study permit applications to the public colleges. However, we regret more has not been done to aid in the colleges’ financial recovery.
Ontario’s colleges are pleased the provincial government has made an initial investment into public college students.
The federal government’s cap on study permits for international students is essentially a moratorium by stealth that is already causing significant and unnecessary upheaval for students, employers and communities.
A moment with Marketa
Canada’s Future Skills Council recently released a new report, Canada – A Learning Nation: A Skilled, Agile Workforce Ready to Shape the Future. The goal is to build a sustainable workforce. Clearly, colleges will be pivotal to the success of those recommendations.
Did you know that as of right now, colleges can offer and deliver four-year degrees but not three-year degrees? Instead, colleges are required to offer three-year advanced diplomas in many areas important to the economy.
This is something of a global anomaly. In most of the world, post-secondary programs that are essentially the same as our colleges’ three-year programs award degrees to graduates rather than diplomas.
