Waterloo Region Record - Colleges need autonomy to help drive economic growth

To help restore Ontario's position as an economic powerhouse, the Ontario government should give colleges more autonomy to create and expand degree programs, says John Tibbits, the president of Conestoga College and chair of Colleges Ontario, in an op-ed in the Waterloo Region Record. This would include allowing colleges to create career-focused three-year degree programs that would replace many of the existing diploma programs. It would also mean expanding the range of four-year degree programs and creating specialized master's degrees for high-demand fields such as robotics, cybersecurity and animation.
