Statement by Marketa Evans, president and CEO of Colleges Ontario, on post-secondary funding announcement

“We’re pleased the government is making this initial investment into the success of Ontario’s public college students.

“We recognize and support the province’s focus on the most immediate pressures, rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach.

“Our public colleges remain committed to ensuring students throughout the province have access to affordable post-secondary education and training.

“While the investment announced today is a welcome first step, we expect further action from the province.

“The future of the high-quality programs offered to students remains at risk.

“This is particularly critical as key sectors face a serious shortage of qualified people. There is a great demand for more public college graduates in key sectors, including health care, early childhood education, construction, mining, advanced manufacturing, tourism, engineering and technology.

“Ontario’s public colleges already deliver a strong value proposition – affordable access to post-secondary education and training throughout the province.

“We’re committed to working with the province to ensure funding is increased and to collaborate on ways to find new efficiencies.”
