2010 Colleges Ontario Awards

 

The Colleges Ontario Awards honour leaders and volunteers who have contributed to the success of the college sector. The 2010 Colleges Ontario Awards were presented at the Higher Education Summit on November 22.

 

Belinda Sayeau, a graduate of Fanshawe College in London, has won the student excellence award for her work helping aboriginal students to get a postsecondary education.
Lorie Shekter-Wolfson, an assistant vice-president at George Brown College in Toronto, has won the exemplary service award for her work in leading the development of the college’s new $175-million campus on the city’s waterfront.

The First Generation Student Project at Centennial College, in Toronto, has won the collaboration award for its successes in encouraging students from families with no history of postsecondary education to go to college.

Fred Blackstein, a former board governor at Algonquin College in Ottawa, is the winner of the William G. Davis Community Volunteer Award for his contributions shaping the vision for a new campus in Renfrew County.

 

 

 

Minister's Lifetime Achievement Award

 

The Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities Lifetime Achievement Award - 2010 recognizes success in advancing Ontario college education.

 

Dr. Rick Miner, Seneca College's president emeritus, served as Seneca president from August 2001 to July 2009, at which time he retired from that position. Prior to joining Seneca, he was vice-president, University of New Brunswick for seven years. Before his term at UNB, he was at Saint Mary's University in Nova Scotia where he served as director of the Canada/China Language and Cultural Program from 1989 to 1993, dean of commerce from 1982 to 1987, and MBA director from 1978 to 1981. Miner has also held faculty positions with the University of New Brunswick, the University of Toronto and Saint Mary's University.
